Make your house sitting travel dreams come true: How to fund your trip
Warren and Betsy are experienced house sitters from Boston and experts at de-cluttering to raise the finance to fulfil your travel dreams. Here they share their story, what worked for them and how you too can raise the money you need to make your dreams a reality.
“Could you fund your next holiday by selling stuff you no longer need, use, or want? It is not only possible, if you are like us it is entirely probable.
My wife and I were living in Boston in a home way too big for 2 people and we had filled it with things we thought we needed, but never actually used. We felt like we’d been living our lives for others, based on their plan for what was supposed to bring us joy.
Suddenly we looked at each other and asked “Why are we doing this? Are we happy?” The answers were – a) we were doing it because we thought this is the path we were “supposed” to be on, and b) NO, we were not happy. In fact, we were the farthest from happy we had been in our time together.
We needed a change!
Over the course of the next few months we began a major upheaval in our lives. We began by getting rid of all the unused stuff which was cluttering up our home and lives. We sold, we gave away, and we donated items which were holding us back from the life we wanted to live. As we cleared out our unwanted possessions, we were able to see what we wanted more clearly.
We traveled more. Instead of spending the weekend shopping to fill up the house, we spent the time planning new trips. We stopped focusing on possessions and turned our attention towards new experiences and creating the time, space, and money to make them happen.
After just a few months of work to declutter our home, Betsy and I had made over $8,000 (USD) selling off our unwanted items through sites like Craigslist, eBay, and Gumtree. This new money made a fantastic addition to our travel fund, which included trips to San Francisco, New York, and Hawaii.
More importantly, it freed up space in our home and lives to see more possibilities.
What are you holding onto that could fund your next holiday?
- Furniture you have not used in months
- A treadmill that gets more use as a clothes hanger than for exercise
- Sporting equipment which has not seen the outdoors in a year
- Books you’ve read, but never expect to read again
- Your collection of Hummel figurines that you’ve kept boxed up for 5 years
We all have items in our home that could offer more value to us than sitting in boxes stored away for “some day”. Our dreams of travel continue to grow but our bank account does not.
Why not turn these items from junk to cash and get started planning your next holiday? We created a Declutter Clinic to help you do just that – get rid of your clutter so you can get on with your life. You’ll learn how to dispose of your items and make enough cash to not only pay for the course in the first week, but start funding your next holiday.
Plus, we know the perfect website to help you find house-sitters who can take care of your place while you are sunning yourself on the beach.”
